Odd File opening problem

I'm using Photoshop CS and can't open a file when I double click on the icon. I can only open JPG's or PSD files from within the program. I know about setting the default program through the "Get Info" menu, but it still does not open. Funny though, the file will open with a double click when I set it to open with Image Ready, Painter, Explorer, and Netscape. When I double click on the file it will start up Photoshop, but the file will not open. All I get is that quick "zoom up" effect, but no image.

I've had the same problem in the past, I usually just drag the file into PS after it is already open. but it seems to work a lot better if you simply use the open command.
