A friend of mine installed "live update" on my pc with the result that every time I opened Photoshop, it would check for new updates on the web. I meanwhile rid myself of that program, but am now stuck with this: Every time I open a new file, it comes with a blue dotted line around it and two little symbols in the upper left. I can make it disappear by unclicking "View Extras" or using keyboard shortcut ctrl-H but as soon as I open another image, it's back and it's driving me nuts! I am using Version 7.0 and I assume it came with an update because it didn't happen in the beginning. I've looked through the "preferences" menu and checked Photoshop Help without any results. Does anyone know how to make this dissapear?

the fact that the slice icon is in blue means one of afew things... your working on a document, that has slices... you promoted an auto slice to a user slice... which basically means, chances are you or someone else put them there. the only thing that shows up by default, is the Grey box which generally means a 'Auto Slice'. Ctrl + H hides them, but also select the Slice Select tool and hit the Hide Auto Slices button up on the options bar. heathrowe |

You need to turn off the view slices in view>show (under view>extras) then quit and re-start Photoshop, it should stop them appearing automatically.
