Hi, I've been using Photoshop for a while but Mom just e-mailed me a few pictures she wants to print out 8x10 (inches). How many pixels equal an inch? Thanks. Brian NY |

Actually you can choose between: pixels inches cm mm points picas columns when you create a new image in photoshop so you really dont have to know how much 1 pixel is in inches. But 8 inches is 576 pixels and 10 is 720. |

The printing size depends on the document's resolution. You can specify this when opening a new photoshop document or through the Image Size dialog (Image -> Image Size). 72ppi is standard screen resolution, so Sir_Lopez is right in one way, but most work or photos for print should be set at a higher resolution for better quality prints. My advice to you is to keep the original physical dimensions of the image and then calculate the resolution for the image so that it'll fit x number of pixels per 8x10" area. (For example, if the given image size is 1152x1440, you'd set the resolution to 144ppi so that you would have 144 pixels per inch (1152/144 = 8, 1440/144 = 10) and you'd have your 8x10 print). |

well, not really. Mac's have a different resolution again, more in the 90's, in actual fact that bears little resemblence to the accepted norms.

Anything printed should be at 300dpi.

Not necessarily *me, I have often printed images at 150dpi with great success, but I have to admit I do most of my printing at 300 dpi when I can get away with it.

The problem I'm having is, the pictures coming out of the camera are, 1728 x 1152. When she tries to print them, there so big, that she's only getting a piece of the left side of the picture. Changing the dpi wouldn't correct this, would it?

Bring it into Photoshop and use Print With Preview. You might be able to fix some stuff in there.

random is right. use the File> print with preview> click on 'Scale to Fit Media' box and you'll be in business. |
