Hi guys,

I am a new photoshop user in need of help.
I took a picture with a digital camera, exported to PC and now i wish to make a simple edit.
I want the picture to have two colors.
An example from what i want is the picture from Bill Murray at h**p://www.bam.org/

Can anyone help me with this?

thanks

Welcome to the forum tecnomusik. There are a few ways to do this. I would convert the image to Greyscale from RGB (Image>Mode>Greyscale}and then to Duotone (in the same menu).

You could just add a fresh layer and fill with a colour and then change the blend mode, but this is a little crude.

By looking at that picture of Bill Murray, I think he means the picture seems to be of one hue. So the blacks turn out dark blue, and and white become light blue, for example. To do this, go to Image->Adjust->Hue and Saturation. Check the check box 'Colorize' and play with the sliders until you achieve the effect you want.

If you go the hue/saturation approach make sure it's an adjustment layer and not just applied to the current layer.

The hue/saturation worked, not exactly like the bill murray pic. I guess I need to mess arround with the hue/saturation more.

Someone told me there was a longer way to do this, but hte output comes clearer.
It dealt with making a new layer, and some other changes.

would you happen to know another way to get as close to that bill murray pic?

thanks

As previously stated I would Duotone. Convert it to Greyscale and then to Duotone. In actual fact as you will find you can use more or less than two colours. The benefits of Duotones are there ease of use and reliable results for printing.

To sharpen your image at the end, duplicate the layer and run a high pass filter on it at around 2.5 pixels, change the layer blend mode to soft light. That should have sharpened it.
