Alright, here's my deal. There's this guy who would like for me to hook up a site for him. It's a fishing site for a company called Silstar Corp. of America.

So they sent me some CD's and catalogs all the way from Korea. They seem to be a bit off when I view them in my files, what I mean is they have numbers and a bunch of little squares, so I don't know what all that means.

Anyhow, they're in .eps format, but when I open them in Illustrator I get a black and white photo all dissolved. So I opened them in photoshop, and I get an "Embedded Color Mismatch" or something like that.

So I use the "convert color" option and it opens up. There are other photos in there that I can view in the preview box in my "open file" window, but when I try it says, "This is the wrong format" or something similar.

Do you all have a clue that you might be able to pass on as to the best way of working with these files because I don't know what's up. They're all really nice, from those I can see, and they're all in a resolution of 300, which I convert to 72 and they look really sharp. But I need to get all of these photos working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I hope I listed in the right place, but I need some help on this. Thank you all for your time!

I'm not sure about the embedded color mismatch error. It might be a strange color managment setting embedded in the file. The squares with numbers are slices. They define different parts of an image. I wouldn't recommend you delete or change them. If they bug you, you can hide them by going to the View->Show->Slices menu. Make sure slices is unchecked.

Allanon,

Thanks for your help man. On the part on the numbers and squares, maybe I wasn't too clear on that one. I meant that the way they appear on the file listing they are titled with numbers and squares, so it kind of looks like the files are corrupt but they're not.

I do know the slices though, but that's not what I was referring to...it made me laugh thouhgh, because I thought, "Man, I wasn't clear on that one."

But yeah, the file names are what's actually trippin' me out and I don't know if that has anything to do with how they were orginally saved or what. But hopefully someone can help me out with that. I dont' mind the color embeded part, because it can be converted, but I don't know why the other images open when I can see them. Odd stuff.

If the files aren't corrupt, and just have a strange name, you can change them. What seems to be the problem?

Hey man, thanks for your response. My problem is this.
When I go to open file in PS, I get the file catalog where I look through all the files to choose which one to open. When I click on a file I can see the picture in the small viewer which tells you how big the file is.

So when I click "open" it says, "Cannot open, wrong format" So that's where the problem is. Only some open, but others don't. I know the file name can be changed, but I'm just wondering if any of these have any type of format in embedded in them. So it's not the file name that concerns me, it's just the fact that I can't open the pictures I can clearly see.

So, any options for opening up a file that can't be opened the regular way? I've also tried going through my files in every way and opening them from outside of photoshop, and still nothing.

Thanks for your help.

They are probably saved in korean, the font base on your computer can't recognise the characters, just right click on them and rename, they should open easily from then on, but if they are referenced in the web site the "img src"s will have to be changed too.

good luck.

PS I had the same problem with some Japanese files., the formatting is probably fine, your machine is just having trouble getting around the name.

CryptoManiac,

Thanks for your response. I save the files and changed the name, but when I went to try to open them in Photoshop, it said: "Could not open or parse a DCS file".

From what I gather DCS stands for "Desktop Color Separation" and I don't know what that's all about exept for this link I found here: http://www.prepressure.com/formats/dcs/fileformat.htm

So my guess is that it may be an outdated type of format over what is normally used. Hmm, any other suggestions might help before I have to contact this person to re-send the files.

Thanks again for the replies and I hope to solve this soon.
