hi there, i've seen this sort of thing around alot lately and i've always thought it must be pretty easy to do, but when i actually tried it, i cant figure it out!! grrrrr!!! can someone tell me how to do this. follow the link below to this site, look at the column on the right where it says "Synthesis", see those five small images there (with pink and white n' stuff), click the second one to view that image. you see the swirly lines in the background in white and pink, how do i do that??? you see it in alot of these 70s and 80s type illustrations and it looks so simple but i havnt figured out the technique. help!! :D thanks..

one way i done this is with the pen tool. you make a path and then you move the anchor points to make them round. After you have the smooth lines you want just make it a selection and then stroke. I have done this many tmes the only thing i cant get right is getting rid of the jagginess this causes, maybe someone here can help you and me out with that.

PS: Welcome to the forum.

thanks dreamdesign doing one line is pretty simple, i also use the pen tool. but the hard part is the second or third line, getting them to be uniform and keeping the same thickness and shape along side each other. each time i try to bend or distort them, one path always comes out different to the other. oh well, i'll keep trying, when i figure it out i'll let you know

Drag guidelines out into your document, use those to accurately predict the outcome.

i agree with the grid idea! lots of good designers (of a certain style that is) at least start with a grid to work from. I almost always use it in Illustrator.

lol - the grids usually go hand in hand with guidelines, otherwise you would just be randomly guessing - guess I should have been more specific.

I see no swirlies, but if you need them uniform and evenly spaces you couls make one line then stroke it, then press ctrl-T and transform it, get out of free transform, stroke again....now comes the fun part go to Edit>Transform>transform Again. which will duplicate the last transformation settings you used, (stroke again) , etc, etc unto perpetuity.

But that is if you want them all uniform, if you want them all different, then I wish you much luck.

Is there anyway I could see this pic, it seems to have been moved from the sight you linked.

Good luck.
