Ok. Load the picture as a selection (Ctrl + Left click the layer with the picture on it, once) Create a new Channel. Fill the selection with white. Hit Ctrl + D. Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. Adjust the blur until your corners look rounded enough. Go to Image > Adjust > Levels. For the input levels, I usually use 117 - 1.00 - 143. This will sharpen the edges. Now, go back to the layers window and make sure your layer with the image is selected. Go to Select > Load Selection, and from the Channel drop-down, choose the Channel you just made. From here, you can simply crop off the extra, Ctrl + Shift + I and hit Delete. Or you can Feather it ( Select > Feather ), use any of the Modify tools, or whatever else you can think of from here. Does that help? For the fonts, go to http://www.google.com and type in fonts. |

well, you can also use the layer shape tools, press u to cycle through the various tools till you get to the rounded rectangle, and then fool around with the settings to get the appropriate rounding, then you may need to rastercise (sp?) the layer. Snore |

Thanks. By the way, does anyone know why Photoshop 6 display certain fonts that looks alot "bolder" than the usual size? I downloaded a skinny bitmap font and when i opened it with photoshop, the font looks much fatter. and also, when i try to use the warp tool, it says "cannot ....the layer uses a faux bold style" even though the font is not set to bold. Thanks |

When you choose the font tool, there will be a toolbar that comes up at the top (you know that already), but on that toolbar, there is a drop-down list that says "Normal, Crisp, etc, etc.) There is 4 settings, but if you want that font as skinny as possible, choose the 1st one.

No - You have accidentally checked "faux bold" - go to the character palette drop down menu - and there will be tick beside "Faux bold". Uncheck this. Its just a kind of dopey way to simulate a bold font, if no bold version is available. Most people don't use Faux bold or italic, because they are a little clunky compared to properly designed bold and italic weights. |

Mark, what version of PS are you using, because I don't see the Faux Bold checkbox. I know if I right-click the text, it gives me a drop-down menu where I can check it, but I don't see a check-box under the Pallete. |

Mattboy.... In PS6, while you have the Type Tool selected in the Tool Palette, hit Command/CTRL-T, or click "Palettes" in the Options Bar,and the Character Palette should appear. At the top left of the palette there's a small, right-pointing triangle. Click on that to produce a drop-down menu. In that menu you'll see a list of additional options that can be applied to individual characters. If "Faux Bold" has a check mark next to it, uncheck it to see fonts in their intended, native weight. |
