Hi guys, Do you know of a method to copy layers from an existing psd file to a new psd file? See I'm doing a website design in photoshop but I want to be able copy over the menu bars which will remain on all pages without having to spend time constantly recreating the thing on each page? I have Photoshop 7. Thanks, zkli. |

? Just click on the layer and press Ctrl + C and go to the new psd file and press Ctrl + V. |

Or if you have both documents open just drag the layer you want to the new PSD.

Great, thanks guys, I was getting confused as I couldn't see both layer panels, never knew you could just drag it onto the other psd file as simple as that, thanks again:] zkli |

If you want to copy a layer and keep it in the exactly same location (relative to the size), right click on the layer, select duplicate layer. In the destination section, select your open image that you want to copy the layer to, or choose "New" to make a new file.

Also holding the Shift key when drag & dropping from one document to another automatically centers it. cheers heathrowe |

I don't use ctrl+c and ctrl+v, it is slower than using drag and drop ( that uses ps scratch)and drag and drop with shift registers the image, as it has been said...

If you want to copy multiple layers at a time, put them in a set and move the entire set to the new document. CryptoManiac |

I right click the layer and go duplicate... then you get to choose where you want it (can put it in a new document if you want, as well). Works for layer sets, too. Or I save, and then use save as... to make a new document with all the layers in it. Or you can use the history pallette and click 'new document from current state'. Good thread - everyone learns new techniques and ways of doing things. |
