Hi Is is possible to have different layers for slices - i.e. each layer has a different slicing for the image. This is so that if I need to cut up the image another way all I have to do is change the "slice layer" instead of reverting to another copy of the psd file? Thanks. |

A slice is global, ie a slice covers all layers. You can overlap slices. and if you hide a layer it won't show up in a slice.

I know how slices work..but my question was not on how slices work. It was on whether it is possible to have different slice "sets" for the same psd? I apologise if my original post was ambiguous.

no...you will have to make a copy of the PSD and then change the slices...or lose your original ones.

you can select your layer, then go to layer>layer based slice. it will create the slice from the most outer bounds of the graphics in your layer, so the slice will still be rectangular if that's what you're trying to avoid. slices are always rectangles. you can also have different sized slices on top of eachother and just change their stacking order. it's just that there's not a pellet to keep track of that so don't make too many.

You can dod this with ImageReady CS - and since you mention Slice Sets in you post I'm assumming thats whats your using.... Do your slice thing to your elements, then Shift Click to select all those slices, Group Them into a (you guessed it) a Slice Set. Now its just a matter of toggling visibility of that Slice Set in the Web Palette (in this case, Hide it), then go to your Document and create a whole new set of slices. (Group them as the first ones were done) . From there, toggle visibility of the Slice Set you need just be you Save For The Web... hope that helps heathrowe |
