Arial I'm new to the group, so please forgive me if I'm slightly off the mark in any way. In fact, I've never participated in a forum like this. Anyway, I'm having a vexing and mysterious problem with Photoshop 6.0. So, here goes... I recently purchased a new computer (PC) with a Windows XP OS. I needed to reload Photoshop 6.0, which I was using on my previous computer (Windows 98SE). Everything seemed OK, except that I could no longer import images from my scanner through Photoshop. If I select "import" in the file menu, instead of showing my Canon scanner as the TWAIN destination, it merely shows "annotations." Now...After encountering this problem, I downloaded and installed the update for Photoshop 6.0 and installed it. I also downloaded from the Adobe site a Plug-In update. This, I thought, would probably fix the problem. And it did...sort of. I installed the updates as instructed, opened Photoshop, and still my scanner was not showing up. Then at some point I inadvertently clicked on one of the plug-in downloads mentioned above...a plug-in.dll file. When I did that, Photoshop immediately opened and the scanner was there! So, I created a shortcut to the file on my desktop. If I click on it, the program will open up and I can scan through Photoshop. If I open Photoshop using the regular icon on the desktop, though the program will seem to work normally in every other respect, I does not recognize my scanner. Is any of this making sense? Thanks for any input anyone may have... Ricky-LeeArial |

Welcome aboard rick, I think you should unistall photoshop and all your scanner camara software, then install photoshop first then the rest of your software. I think that should clear the problem up.

It sounds like you need updated drivers from your scanner manafacture. I went from Windows 98 to XP and had to install new drivers for my scanner (no easy task considering the scanner is no longer in production). If there are no drivers on the manafacturers website, I would look far and wide on Google Groups or similiar. |

I'd also double check to see if your WinXp even supports your scanner. I also learned that experience, after an upgrade (WinXp) and a few cusing hours, only to discover that the scanner i had (hp) was ONLY for W98. Needless to say I got a new scanner after that. And as the Hermit suggests, check with your manufacturers website for driver updates, and not just Photoshop. Its more than likely a Scanner Driver Issue. Oh, and besides the obvious, is your scanner plugged in?? you'd be surprised how easy is it not to have the thing plugged in properly or all the way. cheers heathrowe |

Thanks for your help. |

And I think Windows XP was around when I got it. But I can certainly look into it. Thanks for your help. |

Yes, the scanner is definitely plugged in. I tested it to make sure it's scanning, which it is. I'll look into the scanner driver update approach. Thanks for your help. |
