go over the edges with a selection tool, is the best method. very time consuming but the best results.

also, please try to link your images.

I would say select by color, make that a mask, then keep selecting different colors, and add it to the mask. After youve got it all masked out, blur it a pixel or two, put a blue color fill behind it, and do adjust the levels of the mask as you watch the screen.
Most efficient way, i think.

Let me know if i can explain it better!

Channels and Luminosity masking. I know the photo and the source though so would be interested to hear what your thoughts on the matter are. In the tutorial from that photo, I do believe that he used the magic wand amongst other things.

the background eraser tool worked like a charm for me in the areas around the leaves/pines....

Have a look at the setting i used in the below screen shot.. toy with the tolerance level.

The shot just below it is to show, how clean of a job it did... in just a few minutes

ScreenShot << beware! 400+ kb image

Hope that gets ya think'n

wow, heathe. That's DAMN clean.

I'd say then, use heathe's method for the leaves. you could do either selection tool or heathe's method for hte trunk i guess.

I also think the mask/channel methode sounds good. Any great tutorials around?

Heath, is the background eraser in 6 as good as that? I thought they had improved it on CS. I never thought you could get those results with the background eraser!
