go over the edges with a selection tool, is the best method. very time consuming but the best results. also, please try to link your images. |

I would say select by color, make that a mask, then keep selecting different colors, and add it to the mask. After youve got it all masked out, blur it a pixel or two, put a blue color fill behind it, and do adjust the levels of the mask as you watch the screen. Most efficient way, i think. Let me know if i can explain it better! |

Channels and Luminosity masking. I know the photo and the source though so would be interested to hear what your thoughts on the matter are. In the tutorial from that photo, I do believe that he used the magic wand amongst other things.

the background eraser tool worked like a charm for me in the areas around the leaves/pines.... Have a look at the setting i used in the below screen shot.. toy with the tolerance level. The shot just below it is to show, how clean of a job it did... in just a few minutes ScreenShot << beware! 400+ kb image Hope that gets ya think'n cheers heathrowe |

wow, heathe. That's DAMN clean. I'd say then, use heathe's method for the leaves. you could do either selection tool or heathe's method for hte trunk i guess. |

Is that another way to get rid of the background? I also think the mask/channel methode sounds good. Any great tutorials around? |

Heath, is the background eraser in 6 as good as that? I thought they had improved it on CS. I never thought you could get those results with the background eraser!
