How did they do this?

Hey everyone, I would like to thank you in advance for the help that you guys have and will be giving me.

I have seen this effect before and always wanted to know how to create it. I am speaking of the color blending. I think it is some kind of dodge coloring, but I’m not sure. Also the faded image in the upper left hand corner (where they have blended half of her face in the pic) is a cool effect I would also like to know haw to do.

If you all know of a tutorial you could point me to or if you could explain it step by step (like you would a child :D ) I would deeply appreciate it.

Alright first of all whip out your gradient tool and select the colors you want. That's all they did for the different colors going from top to bottom, then changed the blending mode to overlay or some kind of light or something. The half of the face thing is just the picture with a changed blending mode. Best way to learn this is to play around and see for yourself what each blending mode looks like.
