Just want to say a quick HI, new to the forum Okay, I've been using Photoshop for a few years now and this is the first time this has happend to me! Check the pic below: This just happend recently, and I have no clue what is causing it... When ever I contract a selection it loses shape... I don't understand why its doing it... I tried to figure it out..... I bet this is a quick fix :p I just have a mind block if you will... Thanks for your time guys. ***BTW, I'm using Photoshop 5.0*** |

Actually, it's not a bug. That's how Photoshop's selection algorithm works and it won't ever be fixed. Whenever you contract a selection is will turn kind of square looking. I used to know the inky details, but now I don't.

Seriously? I have never encountered this problem until a few days ago..... The integrity of the selection should remain, hasn't done that to me before... Anyone else? Thx again. OH btw, another thing! I just tested this a few mins ago, When I goto make a RECTANGLE Selection, CONTRACT 3 times by 16 pixels and then EXPAND, the corners of the rectangle are cut off?!?!!? _______________ |00000000000000| |______________| ______________ /00000000000000\ |00000000000000| \______________/ Something like this....... but the Circle Contract problem worries me more! :( I really need it to hold its integrity when contracting.... I can't have those weird shapes poping up like that.... I found a fix for it...... and thats to Smooth the selection.... BUT I never had to do that till now... what gives? |

My version of Photoshop 5.02 has always done this. I create circles of absolute sizes when I work, then if I need to contract I create a smaller sized circle. Works like a charm!

You just never noticed it before, but Photoshop has always done that with selections. Last I heard from Chris Cox at Adobe, they do plan on fixing this sometimein the future, but it just hasn't been really high on the priority list. I'm with Hunko- on this one. When I need exactitude I use the Options Palette to set an absolute size for things like that. Or, I'll just use paths, which are more precise anyway. |
