Photoshop 6 on Win2k crashes on start

I have PS6 on win2k. Everytime I try to start Photoshop it loads everything but after the message "initializing" the app window closes with no further message

reinstall. It's not a definate fix, but where I used to work, that was the only option left.

I run win2k with 6.01 I'd suggest the update and check the Adobe forums. I think there was a snag if you had Norton protected recycle bin or something goofy like that. I honestly have not had one single problem?? Also don't upgrade "over" 5.5 Do a clean install in 6.0's own seperate directory...

Initialization failure is more often than not caused by a corrupt "prefs" file

use >Start>Find>Files and Folders

search for "Adobe Photoshop 6 Prefs.psp"

trash that file

start PHotoshop.


if that doesn't work yell back, there is one other thing to try before you reinstall
