Ctrl + X = Cut
Ctrl + C = Copy
Ctrl + V = Paste

Not sure if some file types don't copy or paste, though I can think of none offhand that would cause a problem.

By the way you phrased that, I'm assuming you're right clicking the file -> Copy. (if not, refrain from using "things").

Of course, by doing that, you're copying file data instead of pixel information. Open the file first, select all, copy, and then paste it into another Photoshop document.

Or right click the file, go open with... and then choose Photoshop. Then you can ctrl-a for select all, ctrl-c for copy, and ctrl-v for pasting into your desired window. Takes about 3 seconds - you dont even have to take your hand off the ctrl key ;)

oh and ctrl-d deselects - thats a good one, too :D
