Saving Files not recognized HELP!

I dont' know if this is the right place to post this, and I did a search for my topic and found none so far. But if this thread needs to be moved that's fine, my apologies in advance.

Okay, here's the deal. I have photoshop 7 and have been using my zip drive to save my work.

Got a new CD burner and works nice. But I have a dilemma. I save my photoshop graphics to the CD-RW and then close. When I reopen my file it says, "Blending modes not recognized switch to normal?"

I hit OK, then it says, "this file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."

Of course I designed it in there. Now I saved my work from my zip disks to the CD and it opens them up fine, but when I change something, or alter a graphic, save and close, I open it up to the same thing.

Does anyone know what gives? I'm just saving to my CD. Also, this doesn't work with Illustrator, but I can save from any other program and open without any trouble whatsoever, except my Adobe stuff. The manual says something about fixing software programs to work with this but I'm unclear.

Are there some settings I need to fix in photoshop or something?

I'd like to work this way as my space on my hard drive is limited right now and this CD is working good for everything else.

It runs a Nero burning program and uses InCD to format the disks when I plug them in. The disks are CD-RW.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

One thing you have to realize for cd drives, is that all data is read-only once burned....

best to edit a local copy from the hard drive, and if you just copy a .psd file from the burned cd, more than likely you'll still have to change the file properties from read-only to write (right click and choose properties) -- I always zip my backup .psds to save myself the hassle

hope that helps

I think I've run in to a similar issue in the past. I agree with heathrowe, even though it's a CD-RW, the file is still on a CD--which the software thinks is read-only. Try what he said... if it doesn't work, let us know.

Thanks for your help guys. But still no luck.

When I burn to the CD it says my files are locked and I need to unlock them. How? I have no idea.

When I just format the CD-RW then it gives me the messages I posted up top in my first post.

If I go to properties, I don't have a "write" option from "read-only". Any other suggestions heathrowe?

I stopped burning and simply formatted my CD and then went to save like a regular disk but still, nothing. Do I change my settings while in Photoshop or on the CD directly?

Any help is greatly appreciated because I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this one out.

Cheers and Happy New Year!

hey z -
as I already iterated its best to use your cd version as a COPY and not the actual WORKSPACE/LIVE version.... as u already discovered it dosn't allow for saving of changes....

what you should be doing is working on a local version via your harddrive (NOT THE CD), then edit and save back to your harddrive, THEN copy to cd for backup.

If in the future u need to edit a burned file, copy it back to your harddrive, right click on it and choose properties and from the list UNTICK Read-Only. Then and only then you will be able to edit it again. (Sorry about the error above, I was thinking IIS Scripts when i wrote that re the write permissions)

hope u understand, and hope u getting working
bottom line, u can't save to a cd!!

cheers
heathrowe
and a Happy New Year
