Hey Gang,

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm new to Photoshop - but not to Fireworks. Currently then I'm going through tons of video Photoshop tutorials online and of course included in that I'm taking Image Ready tutorials too.

The thing is of course, because I'm already familar with Fireworks and work extensively with Dreamweaver my instinct is to skip Image Ready and just import everything into Fireworks. Again, I'm already familar with that environment.

What, however, am I likely to lose if I do that? Specifically, although Fireworks can open a Photoshop file - am I likely to lose a bit of quality if I do so as opposed to opening it in Image Ready? Or is it basically a wash?

Thanks!

You shouldn't lose any quality, though you might lose the guides or the slices or the layers, etc. Certain Photoshop-only features that would work better between Image Ready and Photoshop. But I don't know of anything specifically, as I've never used Fireworks for more than about 4 minutes.

Thanks deker,

I see there is an DW extension that will integrate Image Ready into it. I guess then I'll just keep playing with both and see if one takes over.

Cheers!

Well to really get the best results it's best to just use ImageReady or even just Photoshop to cut up the images, then put them into your layout by hand. ImageReady and Fireworks generate some really nasty code with a ton of nested tables and useless spacer GIFs. It's much better to just take the images that they cut up for you and put them in your own CSS or even a simple table layout.

Thanks again, Derker..

I also see you are in Chattanoga. I was there not too long ago. Passed through on my way to the Blue Ridge to see the fall colors. Very nice place.

Back to Photoshop though - to tell ya the truth - the more into the tutorials I'm getting the more I'm thinking I may just use it for all my graphic needs. I believe I'm even seeing now where it will handle all the vector tasking I do.

Again, I guess I'll keep doing the video tutorials. Man - does PS ever have a bunch of buttons - lol. But I always preferred Defender to Missle Command anyway.

Where's my Hyperwarp Button on this thing? :p

I'm feelin the need for speed.

There simply must be one among all these pallets. lol
