The best description I've found for how to make images like the ones at www.thehorusproject.com is "the polygon tool and LOTS of layers". Can anyone go into a little more detail about this stuff. Is there any special drug i need to be on? Wow, this stuff makes me drool.

yeah, im a big fan of that type of work aswell. though im not an expert so i can only give you a little bit better explination on how to do it. first of all when you look at the splash page you think its really nice (so does everyone else). though the key to doing it is lots of layers, blending the layers, and using the blending options (like overlay, screen, colour dodge, colour burn, etc.) I've been trying to do this for a while. I have found that if you just try making it on your first try it wont look so good, on the second probably not much better, third maybe a little bit of a difference. but the thing I've found is that if you work at it more and more you can notice your work is improving. just like the only golden rule, practice makes perfect. so i'd say try using lots of layers with different blending modes. I wish i could get into more detail but that would sort of be like telling you exactly how to make an image like that but how could I unless I knew what you wanted it to look like. p.s. my one question is where do you get the "polygon tool"??? |

The polygon tool is under the same button as the lasso tool. Just hold it down, and you'll see it. There really isn't much of a better explanation for the effect you are trying to achieve. Just find one you like and attempt to make one of your own. With lots of layers, and random crap, and polygons. And blurry stuff. |

you can make pictures like that by gathering a lot of pictures, then cutting them out in photoshop, then combining them into one picture, you can put them all in one layer or put them in multiple layers. Experimenting with the different layer modes helps too, and dont forget the opacity option which is handy too. Applying not only pictures but also effects from perhaps some of your previous work helps too. Experiment with the filters, preferably the artistic filters, you an get some nice effects from them...

gah I'm an idiot, I didnt actually enter the page hehe, so when I did I noticed what you were talkingg about.. well if you look at those "exploding polygons" you will notice they look very similar.. in order to achieve that effect I am guessing you can start out with one shape, such as a polygon, or what makes a polygon up, a triangle. Once you start out with that triangle you use it to make other triangles (duplicate the layer) and transform them, move them, and apply effects (such as that glow effect) to them.

the wastedyouth tuto is good to learn - but don't forget to play with it and after a lot of times you will have finished it in a good way.
