The new edition of Computer Arts magazine (Jan 2004 edition) uncannily enough has an article, cum tutorial on bottle designs. Really though the company that has contracted you should provide all the specifications that you should need. Without any info. from them you are entering a world of hurt. Package design and branding are generally not things to be attempted by the laymen or without some prior knowledge (not busting your balls here). Best advice would be to contact the company and ask. Also it is a little unclear from your post as to what you actually want, is it a real world bottle or a virtual one? Do they have a shape already and just want you to design the label? Some more detailed info. may be useful if you want some pertinent advice. |

<---- Product Design and Development Engineer for a bottle manufacturing company. Questions you need to ask the customer before beginning: 1) What is the product going into the bottle? Different products have different filling requirements, ie. temperature of product going into the bottle, etc. 2) What is the target fill / overflow capacity of the bottle? 6 fl. oz., 1 kilo, 590 ml, etc? 3) What is the desired closure (cap) for the bottle? Is it a threaded finish, snap closure, rolled on? Ask for samples. 4) What is the material for the bottle? Glass, clear plastic (PET), opaque plastic (HDPE), etc. 4) What type of labeling do they want to do? Spot label (cut out shape applied to a 'spot' on the container with adhesive), shrink wrap label (plastic label heated so it 'shrinks' to the shape of the bottle underneath), pressure sensitive label, etc? |
