Epson Perfection 3200 Photo scanner question?

I appologize if this is the wrong area for this question, I wasn't sure where exatly to put it.
My father is having problems with his Epson Perfection 3200 Photo scanner. He is using Photoshop 7.0. With Photoshop open he goes to 'import' and then clicks on 'Epson 3200 Photo' and he gets the following message

"Could not complete the import command because of a problem with the acqusition module interface"

and then it closes Photoshop. I have uninstalled all of the scanner software and reinstalled it and the same with the Photoshop 7.0 software but I still get the same error message.

What can I do to fix this?

One day it worked fine and then the next it did not. He has not added any new software or hardware to his system.

Any ideas would really help.

Does the scanner run on it's own with it's cute little app? Is it only while trying to import directly into PS that you have probs?

I'm not familiar with the scanner--just offering some thoughts. I don't know what sequence you reinstalled in, but I would think you would want to uninstall both; then reinstall the scanner and drivers, then reinstall PS.
