Photoshop Slowness

When I goto Layer Style>Bevel&Emboss or any other layer style, it takes a LONG time for the layer styles window to come up. Like a minute and a half. I'm just wondering how I can fix this? It never used to do it when I first installed photoshop.

Maybe have you installed a lot of layer styles?

It would be wise to use the preset manager to store them inside different folders, so that Photoshop doesn't have to load them all each time you use styles....

I only have like 7. But I will try your idea and see if that is the problem. Thx

Nope, still takes a long time.

Oh and it's not just the layer styles window that comes up slow. It's sometimes, but rarely filter windows but when going to File>New it takes a little longer to open the new image window.

How often do you defrag your hard disks?
Did you allocate a partition of your HD for Photoshop's scratch disk only?
How much ram do you have installed?
Do you have an antivirus that has the trashcan recovery option?
Any instant messaging program(s) running?
As you can see, there are a lot of parameters that can slow down Photoshop...

Why not try Utopian's Photoshop Wonkiness resource thread - ie. delete the preference and restart Photoshop?
