Ohkay, so I've finally got my ass about to start using the path tool in preperation for illustrator (also cause of 3jorn's recent illustration)... I expected to be generaly ohkay with hair/face, but I expect troubles with eyes/nose (I heard they're a b!tch even for pros?). That's just what I got, I think I've ruined Angelina's face. http://www.fishbones.web1000.com/aj.htm I tried a few things with the nose, but non of them seemed to work. I've been looking around the site for a while, and can't really come up with any good examples that I could follow. The eyes obviously need some work, so I think that's my priority. Anyone? |

you definitely made her look like a zombie. To be completely honest, I can't give any advice on how to fix this, but seriously, she looks like she just clawed her way through a coffin door and six feet of dirt. the nose, you're right. it looks retarded. do you know how to draw? I have a feeling that the ability to draw noses will help.. maybe study some noses the eyes themselves look fine to me, just the coloring around it makes it look like it has bags or something o_O definitely fix it. |

I think supahsekzy answered that  Ohkay, so I did a little research on drawing, and I've come up with a great site dealing with noses that I think everyone should read over a couple of times. http://www.mbd2.com/dnoses.htm Ohkay, maybe not. I've come to the conclusion that I suck at drawing, but I'm going to keep trying anyways. I'll make another post (probably in the graphic section) when I fix her up. If anyone would want to point me in the general direction of a good place to view large ammounts of vector faces, feel free :D |

The point must be to keep things simple... look at this vector drawing tut: she barely made the outline and the nostrils... she used a shade of skin to delimit the nose, not a black line...

The only real reason I made that black line is so you can tell where I would have put the nose had I had one done correclty. Thanks for the tutorial spectre, I should have something ready for more comments by tonight. edit: Ohkay, here it is http://fishbones.web1000.com/aj2.htm Fixed a few things, tried a bunch of other things... I think her nose is still pretty ugly but that was the outline in the actual picture. Any more comments now (improvement/not)? 2nd edit: forgot to give the right link |

In fact , you are putting an outline where there should be none: the outlines are usually drawn where there is a strong edge, or a limit... the ouline should be on the left side of the nose, since the head is looking into that direction ...take a comic book, and observe the noses, you'll see what I mean, but I see some progress already!

Hmmm, didn't think of that, thanks spectre. I noticed something that I'm not too sure how to fix. The left eye is supposed to look further away, how would I make that work?

You are welcome! Well, no face is 100%symmetric, but I'd select the layers that constitute the eye, group them in a set, and try to find the best position... |
