Hi all! I have this idea of turning photographs of people (full length), into what look like plastic figures, like you get in plastic model kits. Any ideas on the best way to do it? Thanks Whizz! :D |

I would think that having very good images of people are going to be the main thing. I think they need to have great tonal ranges and be very sharp and clear. If they are cutout, I would try desaturating the image, then putting a colour overlay on top. Then you can start messing about with layer styles (a slight bevel and emboss, definately some satin, and some inner shadow). Also, having them in some sort of pose may help the effect, just a person sitting on a couch probably wont help the effect. Sounds like fun though. I think I will give it a shot and let you know what happens. |

Yes, playing with outlines, and using shades of grey, then a plastic wrap or a high gloss bevel might do the trick, but you have to start with an example. Look at the realism from the toy story ones (of course trying to match pixar is not an easy task) letting a thin line on the side (remains of molding) might be a good idea. Duplicating the soldiers in your image might accentuate the effect. Don't forget to add a stand under their feet. |
