use either : the magic wand tool, the pen tool or the lassoo tool to make a selection around the outline of the car....

then.... when you have the selection... press CTRL and I and then go to.. image : adjustments : desaturate

and then the background will be black and white with the car in the original colours

dont use the magic wand tool... either pen tool for selection, or duplicate your layer and extract the car or whatever via the pen tool or extract filter.

Press "Q" to switch into Quick Mask Mode. Now you can use a paintbrush to paint your selection. Use the Paintbrush and Eraser to make a perfect selection. Press "Q" to get back to Preview mode.
