Okay, if you've been to www.mediatemple.com, the gradient bar that has the navigation links on it are seperated by these lines cut down vertically. I was trying to recreate it but am having trouble. I created a gradient bar (700x25) and tweaked it so it matched the MT color, then I made a 1x25 selection using the marquee tool and then just hit delete to clear that selected part of the gradient but I just can't seem to get a good result. Am I supposed to apply a gradient to the selection after clearing or not clear at all and just apply a gradient.

This is what I have so far:

Add a line of white or light grey just to the right of the line you have there now, which will give it the beveled appearance.

Copy their image and open it in PS, then zoom in real close and you will understand what Deker is saying.

Oh I see it now. And now, another question about the gradient. How many colors is it really? When zoomed in 1600%, It seems to be this:

- Two toned stroke
- 6 colors used for the gradient.

Thanks for all the help so far.

Well since you are zoomed in so close, and the fact that there are only roughly 72 pixels per sq inch, it will "appear" as only six colors. But I wouldn't bother with trying to figure out how many colors are in a gradient as it really depends on resolution. My guess would be "infinite", limited by technology. Also if they saved as a .gif, that will affect how many colors the gradient uses.
