My sites are too flat. They consist of interesting shapes, but the shapes are merely filled with pictures or filled colors. I really need to learn how to make advanced gradients. By that I mean the fancy linear gradients that are used as headers on some pages and as content areas on others. They're complex, but are small files as they merely repeat either horizontally or vertically. I'm talking about gradients on pages such as: - http://www.3jorn.com/stuff/bryce_second.gif - going horizontally along the top and bottom - mo0chan's mcpx website - - - - **** - when I started this thread I thought I knew of lots of websites that I could show you guys so that you would know what I was talking about. Now I can't find any. I guess what I'm talking about is different linear gradients of different color combinations - put together. With 1 px lines between them? Do you make them with selections? As in rectangular marquees next to each other and then gradients in them? On different layers and then merged? I guess what I'm looking for is some input/technique hints regarding using gradients as a way of making some advanced-looking websites. I hope you guys understand what I mean/what the hell I'm talking about. Do you? tom |

well....a gradient's a gradient. Nothing fancy in that. Lines are lines. Just play with them for a while and see what you come up with. It's more a question of imagination than a technique really.

Yeah - thanks for the help on IRC. Wasn't much but it helped. Here's what I did: http://trhaynes.commscentral.net:8000/img/gradient1.gif http://trhaynes.commscentral.net:8000/img/gradient2.gif http://trhaynes.commscentral.net:8000/img/gradient3.gif What do you think? How to improve? (Sorry if I sound like Sharif - no offense). I think that they're good but a little generic. Need to figure out how to mix it up a little but maybe... :D tom |

Thanks for advertising my site trhaynes But as Paavo said a gradient's a gradient...nothing fancy in that :D I sometimes use 2 gradients on one image like one goes "up" and one goes "down" to make it look more "3d" looking. The ones that you did are good...Not sure how you can make them better, they are just like mine... |
