hey all, first post i think. anyway, can someone please explain slicing in photoshop to me? i've created a layout already i dont understand the slicing process. i looked at a few tutorials on it, still dont get the point and how it applies to dreamweaver... also, can slicing be free-form (like slicing perfectly around a circular object)? thanks for any input :D edit- sorry, this probably should've been in New to Photoshop Help |

When you slice in Photoshop, it is a good idea to use your guides and set up how you're going to slice. Then you can check "snap to guides under the "view" menu. When you slice, Photoshop creates one huge table and each cel is a slice. You use the slice tool for that. Once you do that, you'll have to go to "save for web" and export all the slices. You can check each slice using the slice tool and optimizing it for the web. Phothshop also generates an HTML code, which isn't all that helpful, so I would suggest you do the structure in Dreamweaver and play with your images a bit. Since you're planning on using Dreamweaver, there will be slices you may not need from your original design. You can't slice a perfectly round object. You'll have to slice it completely and create an image map if you want it to use a circle for a link or something. In a nutshell, that's pretty much it. Hope this helps you out some. Cheers! |
