I have created a graphics file around 150 MB. When I try to open it in Photoshop, it gives an error message after trying to load... "cannot open file because a disc error occured." Can anyone tell me what to do? Some more info: I'm running on an iBook 2001 model (G3 processor, 600 Mhz, 384 MB RAM), the file is a psd (Photoshop) file. I currently have around 2.85 GB left on my HD and I tried increasing the memory usage in prefs to around 300MB. I even tried using my HD as secondary scratch disc and purged cache in file browser. I figured this might free up some room. I also figure this might be a problem of space, so I tried backing up some files onto CD. Any suggestions would be great. |

Not totally sure if it is a memory issue or a corrupt file, but if it's the former: Have you tried allocating more RAM to Photoshop? How much RAM do you currently have assigned? In Photoshop goto: Edit > Preferences > Memory & Image Cache Allocate 98% of your RAM to Photoshop and then try and open the file. Remember to reduce the amount back to a more sensible maximum limit of 80% after dealing with your mammoth file. You can also d/l a program called Kill All, it shuts down all programs and resource hogs running in the background, you could Kill All programs and then start up Photoshop and see if that helps. But I would imagine that this may be clutching at straws gl |

Sounds like you're not giving enough RAM to the OS. With only 384 MB of RAM, by giving 98% to Photoshop, you're starving the OS. Make sure you have no other applications running. Turn off any 3rd-party control panels and extensions, save for the ones you absolutely need, like drivers and Font Management. |

150 MB's isn't that big of a file. It's big, but not huge by any means. I deal with them all the time. In fact, I corrupted a 150meg PS file the other day. I was some choked. But anyways, if the file is corrupt, it will be much smaller then the 150 megs you say it is. Have a look and check to see how the big the file is. But more then likely, Utopian23 is correct. I don't know about programs like thehermit suggested, but you can just manually shut down alot for the junk that fires up when the comps on. |
