I'm not completely sure on how to do this much but I have done something like this. Make your grid. Then, open up the picture of a girl or whatever you want popping out of it. Save it as a *.psd file. Then, goto the Filter>Distort>Displace and open up your *.psd file. If you want some extra info then this tutorial might help... http://www.thewebmachine.com Go into the photoshop tutorials and near the very bottom of the list is a tutorial called 3D Grid.

I think that was made with a 3D app. the displacement thing will only take you so far - the grid I see there is continued beyond the girl - I would do this with the liquify tool but you loose resolution...

This can be acheived with Photoshop. Use the edit destort, then filter spear, not spearise, but spear, make a very very gradual s shape with it, then use eliptical marqee and filter pinch

Buy a book. They're expensive but usually helpful. I don't use Maya so I cannot suggest anything for you.

I was a computer animation student and have done a lot of work in Maya, 3D Studio Max, Lightwave, etc.. it isn't for the "faint of heart". You need a lot of experience, but mostly what you need is the ability to "see" the final product correctly and be able to understand these programs enough that you can do so. To acheive this understanding you need a lot of practice. It takes years to get good at programs such as Maya or 3DSM. To be an expert it takes a very long time. I don't suggest trying to jump into these programs and be able to do something. Just learning how to get around the interface could take you months. You'll never fully learn it because there are probably over a million buttons inside these programs (seriously). If you want to learn to use Maya, 3DSM, Lightwave, etc then I suggest you put Photoshop away and spend all your time in these programs (though I dont suggest doing that all, because it would be better that you get to a decent level in Photoshop first -- you WILL need your Photoshop skills to create textures for your scenes, 3D Models, etc). Good luck |
