I did a quick google search for Quantization + photoshop and came up with this:

From article found here
Quantization is where mathematical errors take place because fractions are not used between whole numbers in a digital file. The whole number values that become fractions during image processing are re-calculated and then become whole numbers again.

Hope that helps...

I'm not sure I'm the person to ask :p , I don't know much about mathmatics in regards to digital imagery... from the article it sounds like quantization is just the occurence of mathmetical errors when editing an image, perhaps when resizing, or something? Not sure :p

Apparantly—I've found by searching the web— that digital image quantizatin is actually the averaging of brightness levels, when an image is sampled. The brightness values sampled from the original, are rounded off to whole numbers, which represent, "amplitude (brightness) quantization" —or just Quantization.

I feel better now, don't you lol Cheers for all contributions
