Hello everyone in PS land. I am trying to get my head around Photoshop's colour management system. I think I'm pretty down with it, but there are a few things bothering me. What is the difference between Adobe RGB(1998) working space, and CIE Lab space?. Your help is greatly appreciated—thanks in advance, Rob.

I dont know a lot about the differences, all i know is: Well ... Adobe RGB (1998) is a colour system for RGB colours, but the same system for all the adobe programs. CIE lab space (lab-colors) is a color space chosen by the CIE (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage). An attempt to create one uniform colour system for the graphical sectors (i dont think it is used outside Europe). I know that at work, we use the Adobe RGB system. Hope I helped you out (just a little bit) |

Thanks for reply. So it's like an editing space but with a larger range of colours than other RGB spaces, and is not dependant on any specific device?

Well, you always have to make sure that all your devices have the same colour system. So you usually have: Input -------------> Processing ---------------> Output (e.g. scanner) (photoshop) (printer, plotter etc) If the colour systems are not the same in those three, you'll get a lot of surprises when you print. |
