Yeah have you got eye candy 4000. THat can create quite a good smoke effect. As for the viper pic that looks like it is the lightning techinique. THat tutorial can be found all over the place. Yeah man i am from New Zealand aswell. Super 12 kicks arse. Stink how we never made the finals this year but a good win over the springboks the other day.

eyecandy 4000 is expensive! but it is worth the money for the chrome, fire, and shadowlab filters...

I've just downloaded a free full version copy of eyecandy 3 from http://www.photoshopcafe.com , i haven't opened it yet, but colin (the webmaster) says it gives you a discount on eyecandy 4000.

the effect on the site you posted looks like he rotated the canvas 90 degrees and then used the "Filter > Stylize > Wind" Filter...i have used this filter many times and gotten the exact same look...give it a try...you can also use the smudge brush and put it on a low opacity and brush on your own smoke...experiment with differnt brushes!
