How can I get a bevel to appear as if it was metallic? Like a smooth and shiny metal surface. Check out http://www.alienware.com, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Might wanna change your link, doesn't work with comma in there...
Anyways, I'm new to this, but I'd imagine playing with your highlight and shadow modes should help you get the desired edge...
Someone else around here probably knows a lot better than I do though

I really doubt they are using a layer mode. I would start checking out some of the tutorials on mac buttons, or gell buttons, making metallic buttons, etc. Its very well done, aka not done by a novice for sure.

I'd give my left nut to get an Alienware PC. Or are they not as nice as they look/sound/are priced at? Some of them have water cooling. Water. As in H2O.

Um...I'd say that a similar effect could be achieved with some lighting effects, in conjunction with some basic layer styles. A good tutorial for channels is here. It'll show you some basics, which you can take from there. Also, I think you could use some basic layer styles, to accent the effect, but you might wanna tone them down, ie. use some blending modes. The bast way to get used to those os just by screwing around with them. For that one in particular, I'd recommend screen which omits black, and only leaves highlights. Anyway, hope this helps.
