I'm trying to remove a red fog band from an image I've scanned. I've tried following the method detailed in the Martin Evening book where he takes the green channel and pastes it to a layer above the main image. He then sets the layer to darken. Trouble is in his image in the book the red goes grey and the unaffected part of the image only discolours slightly. On my image the majority of it goes grey with only one or two colours showing through at all (yellow mostly). Moving onto the next step of colourizing the image cyan makes little difference. I guess I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone tell me what or can anyone recommend an alternative method. TIA snaphappy |

if u could post your image, it'd help. However, from what you've described, i might try a adjustment layer (curves or hue/saturation) and then use a mask.

I'm not sure what the 'red fog band' you're referring to looks like, but if you only need to apply the colored layer to certain areas of the photo, maybe a layer mask with a feathered edge would help?

The red band is light that has leaked in an uncontrolled manner from the rear of the camera. Half the photo is normal where as any detail in the red channel has been completely obliterated in the other half I will try to post the image so you can see. The idea is to rebuild the lost image data with the untouched green channel and to a lesser extent the noisier blue channel. The big problem I have is that when I paste sections of the green channel it sits on top as grey and not as a green layer. It's more than likely that I've got the wrong end of the stick somewhere. It's just I not sure what. I'll give the curves a go as well, though. Snaphappy |
