I have been working on something in photoshop 6.0. I saved the file as a JPEG. When I open the file in another program, the canvas background shows up. I want to get rid of it. How do I do this? I can make the background disappear in Photoshop, but I need to know how to get rid of it when opened in another program or when printed.

Thanks,

Christian Castillo

Just get rid of it in Photoshop, then click File >>> Save For Web >>> choose .gif, and choose transparency.

just letting you know, that if you want to print the image, dont save it as a .gif .. as most of you guys know gif is based on a color scale of 256 colors at the max..

Therefore if you want to print it, you will have to save it as a .tiff, .eps ect. ect.

But printing also requires a optimized dpi (dots per inch), img size ect ect... Actually a decent print takes more than the average user knows

Anyway, if you want to print it, let me know.. i'll guide you through saving it without the bg, inserting it into another program and such...

hope that is of any help

Also understand that Indexed color can be ANY 256 colors.

It could be 256 shades of gray if you want...doesn't have to be the standard "rainbow" color set.
