I got a little trick i invented...works fairly well.

First...make your round selection (hold shift). Then fill it with a yellow-ish/tan color. Next get yourself a photo of rain drops (or any water drop)....invert the picture and set to hardlight. This creates the craters. The water drops (inverted) will create a black round crater..and the waterdrops shadow (inverted) will create a white crust around the crater!!

This pic was made that exact way

Hiya Rodder454,

Thnx alot for your reply, I really appreciate it. I finally found the plug-in I used: Flamming Pear's LunarCell.

Thnx alot for your time,

Brent

Let's not forget the original intent of the application...perhaps a photograph of our moon will be what you need?

It's called PHOTOshop for a reason.

Of course...we can't guess, since you haven't explained what TYPE of image you're going for...realistic, cartoonish, fantastical....

Hiya Utopian23,

I agree, it was a little foolish not to state what type of image I was trying to create. To be honest, even I don't truely know. I'm just trying to create a photorealistic (not photogenic) image. Something vaguely abstract that captures my mood.

I'm trying to create the impression of serenity.

I think I'll give up the idea of using LunarCell because it's a little to photogenic, and I think I like the "rendered" look of using Photoshop's filters to create the image I want. I think I'll just stick with my nebula (although it's a popular one at the moment; it captures my mood quite nicely)

Anyway, thnx alot for all your help. If I come across any more problems, I know where too come.

Regards,

Brent

Oh yeah. Please don't think I'm a complete newbie, I've been using Photoshop for a good few years now for my webdesign (which aren't too bad if I say so myself ).

I checked out that filter. Its not bad. If you want a pic similar to that..you could just use the spherize filter (on some pic...like grass or somethin..whatever you wanted to represent your surface)..copy the pic..up the contrast..use some layer mode and a little bevel&emboss should do the trick. This would give you the basics of it with a lot more creative control/freedom than just the filter.
