Hi everyone, I'm trying to make this picture's file size smaller. It's the startup page for my website that I'm making. The file size is somewhere around 130 kb, and it takes a while for it to load up for a website. Yes I've used Imageready, and that doesn't help a whole lot. I just want it to load up quicker, without losing a lot of quality. The website is for the Air Force, I'm joining as a pilot and am making a site documenting my growing up in an air force family, and my going in the Air Force myself. Ya know just in case yall cared. Thanks in advance. http://www.geocities.com/bucs44_2000/title1.jpg |

"I just want it to load up quicker, without losing a lot of quality" Welcome to reality lol. Seriously though..what have you done to make the size smaller? Im kinda concerned if you say image ready doesnt help because thats what image ready is for. Have you used the optimize palette? Tried the 2 up / 4up tabs in your window? What kind of picture do you have (it would be really helpful if you could post your image ) and what type of file did you save it out as? There is a lot more information needed before you can get some help. Also have you thought about slicing your image so you can compress the slices differently? The slices with more image in it...u use a higher setting and the slices with less image in it you can get away with more compression. |

Ok, here's what I did. I went into Imageready and did the slices. Now I'm really new at this so I may not be doing it all right. I have it all set up where there are separate pictures showing up together, to make the big picture. Now does it make it better to slice the image, then redo each one of those images? The problem I've had was that I lower the quality of the image to where it looks horrible, and it only takes off about 20 - 30 kb. Should I just make the image smaller? When I put it on the page, I got a load time of around 30 sec for a 56k modem. And about 15 sec for DSL/Cable. Thanks |

Why are you slicing it? Clear those slices and save the entire image as a JPEG. At a setting of 30 in Save For Web it'll be about 26KB and virtually identical to your present image. |
