Ok, i was looking through the tuturial section for "the technique"
when i got to the lightning one, i was like COOL...alas...the COOL faded into "Huh?"

hehe, the tuturials are easy to follow...but

... it was suggested to apply the lightning to soem text....

How do you do that?

And if any other helpful tips could be applied here, like what are slices? ( i had been slicing up my work area, and didn't know what was happening) What do these layers purpose?

etc, thanx...

Welcome to the group

you can do it several different ways really....

Try this.

Make your lightning
Now click on the text tool, and creat some Large text (it will be on its own layer)
Now, CTR + click on the text layer in the layers pallet (this will make a selection marquee of your text)
Now select your lighting layer in the layers pallet. (notice there are 2 layer in there)
Just for laughs....lets make the text have an outline Go >Select>Modify>Contract value = 1
Now do CTR + J (this copies your selection of the selected (lightning) layer and pastes it to a new layer.

Notice in your layers pallet you have 3 layers now...move the newly created layer to the top of the list in the layers pallet (if you don't know just grab it and 'drag and drop' it to the top of the list) and tahdah...

This is a very basic way to do it for ease of explaination....hope it helps.
