Hi, I need to know how it is possible to remove the very evident page crease problem that will happen in an image that is spread between two pages in a magazine or book. Please see the image I have included:

if that is a broken link, it could be because my server might not allow hotlinking. If so, please click here: http://kakkoii.0catch.com/page-crease.jpg

Is it possible at all? It doesn't have to be absolutely perfect, but I should think with photshop I'd be able to remove the apparent problem and make it look nice and smooth...

also, tearing the pages out of the book are not an option. the book's image also sort of wraps inward as you can tell... any ideas of how this can be done? thanks.

I guess you could level it out with using the level - thingie in PS.
I would do this:
- Make a selection on the darker area, IE the middle parts.
- Make a new adjustment layer, choosing "levels".
- Deselect
- Make two new selections, on the both sides, on the outer parts of the level - layer
- Feather that selection with a fairly large value, say... (depending on the image size, of course) ...~25 px?
- Hit DEL
- Play with the level adjustments untill you find the place that gives the best results.

The thing is, tho, that if an image goes very dark (as in this case, the middle area of the illustrations), you cannot recover the stuff fully. Photoshop can't "guess" what there should be, but often, our eyes (read, our monitors) aren't showing every value of the colours, especially when stuff gets really dark. So...yeah.

Try something out.
