I am trying to set up an html page with an image on the index page. I am basically trying to have the edges of the picture fade into my html page background. Is there a way I can do that in photoshop. So that the photo doesn't look so cut off and pasted onto the page?

Just set the background color of your photoshop image to the same color as the background of your HTML page. Then make the fade in photoshop. When you put it on the page in your site, it will look like it is fading into the background

and a great tool for that is the gradient - set to your color fading into clear. If you dont like how much it is fading into the image your can adjust the sliders on the gradient dialogue box. |

Thanks, how do I make the edges of my image look faded in photoshop so the it blends. The pictures I am using has different colors in it (mostly red and black). So I am thinking there has to be some way that the image itself can look faded on the edges so the it kind of blends in the background color on the html page.

Try using the Eraser Tool to blend in the edges. Just set it to a large brush so you get a nice blend in there. Then just delete the edges of the thing you want to fade. It has to be on its own layer for that to work though.

ok heres a simple way of making ur header image or splash blend properly with the bg of ur webpage without having to bother with transparent gifs and color mattes etc or carefully erasing around the edge etc ... Say ur have a header image 600px by 300px. Make a new image thats 20px bigger eg 620x320 and fill with exactly the same color as that of ur webpage don't use the eyedropper to pick the color get the exact color code #000000 and use that to get an exact match. Done that now cut and paste ur header image into the new window this will give u 2 layers, bg and header image. Now using the magic wand click outside the header image so u see those small jaggies march around ur image. Goto Select/modify and EXPAND by 5 pxs, then again back to Select and FEATHER by a radius of 4px and cut (ctrl+X) Edit/Cut. You notice the header image will now have a nice smooth fade into the bg color. Layer/Merge all save it as a jpg and add it to ur webpage. |

deker had the right idea, but i would use a layer mask (IMHO) that way you don't lose any pixels, just hide them, so you can change it later and not have to start over...
