How to make a marble slate with a 3-d effect

I would like to make a marble slate with a raised border around it, and possibly have a 3-D effect on it where it would be jumping out at you. I would also like to have engraved font, but I can probably figure that one out.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

for the text...type something...move the fill value to 0 on the layers thing. then use bevel/emboss with outer-bevel and direction to down.
a border wont be two hard...use the same technique as text.
