Background image for site

I would like to create a background image for my site. What size do I need to make the image? 1024x768 or 800x600 or should the image be smaller than that?

760 x 420 is the maximum size... then you'll make sure that people with a a screen resolution of 800 x 600 can see the site. The reason why the size is smaller that 800 x 600 is because you need to think about the toolbars and stuff in Internet Explorer. So a maximum of 760 x 420
