hi guys, im looking for a tutorial concerning the advanced blending modes for photoshop 7.0. Im not only talking about the 2 sliders, but about the 'knockout' pulldown menu, and the 5 checkboxes beneath it. Any suggestions? Tnx guys |

ah, thats nice, tnx ... I understand the sliders, its just the pulldown menu and the checkboxes. I've tried it several times, but i cant see any differences between my imagens when i check or uncheck one of the boxes. |

Go to photoshop help and click search. Then search for "overlay". Click on the 5th result down - "Selecting a Blend Mode" Brief descriptions of the modes are there... To understand "overlay": Make an all red layer and apply a lighting effect to it (filter>render...>lighting effects). Maybe two "omni" lights - one in each corner. Then make a new layer and use the paint bucket to add a pattern (grids or scan lines work best). Select "overlay" from the pulldown menu for the pattern layer and you'll see that the image changes - it uses the lighting from the other layer (I think). Does somebody want to breifly explain (like I have) the rest of them? I only understand overlay. tom |

trhaynes, for understanding the basic blending modes: http://www.thinkdan.com/tutorials/photoshop/blendingmodes/ this is for photoshop 5, but it's the same principle for 6 and 7 (however in 7 there are several others). hope this helps |

Okay I've made the tutorial, might seem a bit long, but you can just read some of the last pages and hope you understand it all. I'd advise you read it all though ![]() |

Thanks for the blending modes page. As for the real question - I think you neglected to include a link to your tutorial. Maybe I'm wrong though. What "knockout" menu are you guys talking about? tom |
