save it as a transparent GIF and then import it into flash.
Pasting won't do it.
Now I've noticed that importing trans. GIFs into flash can be tricky sometimes, it's like it's a bug or something, just import, if it sucks, delete it, and import again until it's the way it should be.
Don't know about MX but this is a problem I've encountered lots of times using Flash 5.

Actually even better save it as a .png with transparency. That way there will be no quality loss when importing into Flash...

BAY, PNG works freaking wonders. Man I wish I would have known this before I imported transparent gifs. Would have saved me hours of breaking apart images and using the eraser tool to clean up the edges. AAAAAAAAAA

Do a trace bitmap in flash, converting it to vectors then delete the white area.
