So I just learned some basics of PS6 and I went and made a nav bar for my webpage (I thought it was a pretty good first job :-P). Problem is, I get some wierd side effects when I make the background something other than white. I have rollovers with glows that show up oddly against a black surface. When I do the preview in IExplorer, it's fine. Also, there are white teeth like edges that you'll see that also don't show up in the preview. Any help would be appreciated. Here's my site. http://rivosyke.netfirms.com Sorry about the cheesy music it plays :-P |

Instead of working on your navbar on a white background, work on it on the star pattern background that you are actually going to use. Then save the files like you did before, and you shouldn't have the jaggies.

I wasn't using a white background, I was just using a transparent background. The HTML that is created made the bg color #FFFFFF, white. Since it doesn't have a background layer, can I just make a new layer for the background? Also, I'm know sure how to take that stars gif and make it a fill pattern. Thanks in advance.

.gif only supports a single colour transparency, and you've designed it with anti-aliasing on. As a result, the pixels that are neither pure blue nor pure transparent are a mixture of blue and white (blue and transparent mix not supported by .gif). like deker said, work on a black background. |

When you say work on a black background, do you mean start over and copy in the layers? Or is there someway to make a specific background layer? I've tried filling a new layer with black, then placing it at the bottom, but it still has the same effects as before. Sorry for the n00bishness, I'm just learning. Thanks in advance.

The way I do roll overs in Photoshops is (for example): Create a folder in the layer menu called: "Buttons" and inside that folder: layer1 that is normal state layer2 that is the roll-over state Now they are one top of each other. Then in Image Ready you just hide/unhide the appropriate layer when making the roll-overs. That way the background is the same behind each button and you wont have this problem. |
