Hey guys, brand new to PS and all this image stuff :-P I was making buttons for my nav bar and I had some trouble. I wanted the rounded rectangles as the buttons, but I can't get just the rounded part of the rectangle. For example. I make the button in IR just as I want it, with a transparent background and everything. How do I save it as a jpg so as to get just the rounded rectangle, and not all the white background? I know I can trim it down, but there's still the white around the borders. How do you save a non-square-like area? Thanks in advance.

You can't save an image as anything other than a square. And the only way to make a background area transparent is to use a GIF. But then you are limited to 256 colors. You can also use a .PNG file, which is relatively new and allows for many levels of transparency. But it doesn't work in all browsers yet.

You just make the background color of the buttons the same color as the background of your page. If you use a patterned background, you have to use a transparent GIF or PNG. Just use save for web and click the transparency box to make a transparent gif. and i think you have to use the eyedropper to select which color is transparent.
