Could someone tell me how to make the angle things in the header of this forum and bevel them like that? The specific part I'm talking about is I am able to start making the angle things when I mess around with the polygonal lasso tool and hold down the shift key but does anyone know of a tutorial telling exactly how to do it? Thanks. |

Personally, I'd just draw a square selection, use the polygon lasso to cut some 45 degree angles out of it, then use the bevel layer style, for added coolness apply a slight gradient over the shape.

What settings should I use for the bevel layer style? Whenever I try it, it just doesn't look...right.

try setting the size of the bevel to 2 or 3 pixels and where the white and black are set to multiply and screen, set them to normal. It shouldn't take that much experimentation to do that, it's a simple effect, play with all the tools and settings, it's the best way to learn. |

for light colors make sure its not too much of a heavy bevel, and make sure the dark tone is set to a lower percentage, and make it softer for both. And make sure the light is cast for the angle you desire, e.g. 45degrees.

or.... ...just draw it yourself. The pencil tool rocks you know? A little bit of creativity needed, but hey. |

I'd do exactly how NL said it, messing around with layer styles takes a lot more time than just grabbing the pencil tool and drawing the highlights/shadows manually.
