Hey all, First post Anyway, Err I Keep getting Scratch disk -1 Errors, in photoshop 7 for windows. Its really starting to piss me off as I can't complete this piece of work i've been working on. So i thought i'd take the bull by the horns and I've used Partition Magic 8 to Create a small 1.5gig partition JUST for use for photo shops scratchdisk, I've used the NTFS file system (I'm using WindowsXP). So my question is really why does this happen, have I done the right thing to stop it happening, is NTFS the best file system to use, and has any one got any tips for optimizing scratch disk performace on Windows. Thanks in advance |

What errors are you getting, there are a few scratch disk related issues people have had. I probably can't help you, but more detail will get you better answers. Also, I'm not sure if a partition will speed up or help anything, since it's on the same physical drive. LA! BYEEEEE!! |

Its kind of helped - its on my second harddrive, not my primary if thats any help, the harddrive is a 15gig Maxor Qunatum (i think). Its not crashing anymore, but the error seems to be largely random.

as with any error message, write down the text of the message and type it into google to search. 9 times out of 10 it will tell you exactly whats causing your problem. |

Make sure your PC is not useing any type of memory enhancement while useing Photoshop. The problem you are having is Very common on the Mac side. The system is useing "virtual memory" (same as a scratch disk) and then Photoshop atempts the same. i got around it mostly by adding lots of ram and turning off all system virtual memory (Im running a gig of ram on my main workstation and 384meg on my production "scripted" machine. Hope this helps you get closer to a solution. Edward |

I've got a gig of DDR333 RAM, will turning down or off the virtual RAM make my system faster? Well, if I don't get a reply I'll just try it out. Win2K by the way, that rhymes. |
