I would like to save some text in an arc as a bitmap to place in a Pagemaker document. Can anyone walk me through this? I'm not very knowledgeable about Photoshop layers.... Thanks so much. |

You can't do this in photoshop. You have to use a program like Illustrator or Freehand or Corel Draw, then import that into photoshop. There are a couple of filters for photoshop that allow you to make text on a path however. Search this forum for "text on a path" to find the links. |

Diana: I would guess you're creating a graphic that is going to be going to print, since you are using Pagemaker. I'm not familiar with Pagemaker, but I would say you are going to want to create the 'path' text in Illustrator--like deker said. Illustrator will create the text as a vector based graphic which typically gives much better results when going to print. Can any of our Pagemaker users chime in? |

actually, depending on what kind of arc you want, you can do it in PS... WITHOUT PATHS... just type some text then select it and Select from the menu; Layer>>Type>>Warp Text... That will bring up a dialogue box... and you can choose whatever "style" you want from there. there is also a button on the settings panel (is that what its called??) when you have the type tool selected

Except that distorts the text and makes it look like a carnival, which is most likely not what she is going for. Unless she is creating a flyer for a carnival. Or a circus. Or a county fair. Or a state fair. Or a movie poster from the 40's. Or an oddity show. Or a traveling fortune teller gypsy.

No. You have to use illustrator, or a plug-in to do that.

If it's rotation around a single point, it's doable in Photoshop and it's pretty easy, yet menial. Put a horizontal and vertical guide on the point where the text is rotating so that you rotate on the same 'path' so to say everytime you move the text. Using the Type tool, input a letter (one and only one). Then Free Transform the Type Layer (CTRL+T). Within the bounding box, there's a small circle in the middle, click and drag that circle so that the middle of it rests right where the two guides meet. Then rotate like you'd always would, but instead of the object rotation in a single spot, it'll rotate around that circle. Repeat for the other letters. If it's not on one point or if the path is more elliptical, it'll get a LOT more complicated. In this case, you'd rotate it like you would above, but you have to do it visually... or if you're a mathematician you can just use the equation of an ellipse to figure out where to rotate the text from. |
