How to erase bground around hair?

Is there a good working technique to erase background around strings of hair on a person's head?

Anyone know of any professional filters that do this?

Pank has a great tutorial using palm trees and the background, which might prove as difficult as hair.

contrast masking is normally fairly effective for hair.
